Turning Passions into Actions

I love the exuberance and fullness of summer. Whether it is celebrating Pride and the Fourth of July or fighting for climate justice and democracy: summer is a time to turn passions into actions.

Regional Climate Action

This week I was proud to be on the keynote panel at the Mid-Atlantic Conference of Regulatory Utilities Commissioners.  My remarks highlighted how we can transform our electrical grid to ensure reliability as we substantially increase our use of renewable energy. I also pushed back on the false narrative that we need to extend our use of fossil fuels to ensure grid reliability.

I’m thrilled my organizing efforts to protect ratepayers and move rapidly toward meeting our climate goals—both here in Maryland and regionally—continue to gain traction.

Keeping Workers Safe From High Heat

As we face unprecedented heat, I'm pleased my 2020 legislation to protect Maryland workers is now leading to some of the strongest heat stress standards in the country. You can read more about them—and how then-Governor Hogan initially tried to weaken these standards—here.

Takoma Park Fourth of July Parade

Nowhere else in the USA is there a Fourth of July parade as joyful, community-driven, and whimsical as Takoma Park.  I am helping to organize a group to march in support of Angela Alsobrooks.  Want to join in the fun? R.S.V.P. here.

Canvassing in PA

This summer I am focused on not only securing a strong win for Angela Alsobrooks as our next Senator from Maryland, but also for President Joe Biden and other Democrats nationwide.  On July 14th, I’ll be heading up to York, PA, for a day of deep canvassing for Democrats.  We will leave the Silver Spring area around 9:00 a.m. and return by 4:00 p.m. I hope you can join me! R.S.V. P. here for more details.

Happy Pride!

Earlier this month I joined my county and state colleagues to raise the Pride flag in Rockville. How wonderful to celebrate diversity and inclusion.  We reaffirmed our commitment to making our community safe and welcoming for everyone.
